I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. My goal has always been to give children the tools and self-confidence to think and explore for themselves. I model self-confidence and creative problem solving. I have earned two masters, one in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and the other in Educational Leadership. I hold a Florida certification for ESE with English Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. In addition to college courses I have completed College Board’s Springboard training and have successfully used it to help students increase test scores. I have taught all subject areas in middle school ESE settings for six years in a variety of classroom models.
I am very passionate about helping students learn. It is my belief that each student has his/her own learning style in which they process information. I believe in the use of technology and various hands on manipulative to increase learning ability.
