My teaching style is very hands on and unique. I focus on the writer's voice above all because without that, they are only writing words with no soul behind them.
In college I was a "student instructor" in my university's writing lab, which is just another way of saying that I was a tutor. Post graduation, I now have experience with journalism as I've written articles for The Style Vibe and Green Label, both highly respected online magazines. Also as a creative writer I have published numerous short stories as well as a few poems. I currently have two novellas under review for publication.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a tutor and contract educator in the Richmond area. I have been an instructor at Rice University, and I have been a substitute teacher for the Toms River (NJ) school system. I have undergraduate degrees in history and journalism as well as graduate degrees in history. I have also worked in the public history field as a museum interpreter and educator. I have had years to hone both my oral and written communication skills, from my first fledging writing and public speaking efforts as a student to my more recent work as a teacher and scholar. After watching a documentary on teachers teaching in the inner city, I decided to switch my major from Pre-Law to Elementary Education. I've always loved learning and I wanted to be able to convey that same message to my students. In college, I majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Psy. of the Exceptional Child. This minor allowed me to study children who are gifted and children with special needs. I am currently working on a Masters in Special Education because I've learned an extensive amount of knowledge on this subject working for the Early Intervention program in my area.

For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science.
