I provide a structured environment for students to achieve their full potential in subjects that may, at first, appear intimidating. I have high expectations and encourage independent, creative thought. Problem solving and reasoning skills are empahasized. Instead of just giving answers, I guide students to participate in the learning process and discover their own answers.
Most recently, I was a high school math teacher for 3 years specializing in PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Astronomy. I taught regular, advanced, and special education classes. I strongly believe that students grow and excel when they are given challenges that are just beyond their current level of understanding. I earned all A's in my graded graduate courses at Teachers College, Columbia University. I believe this reflects my ability to study, learn, research and write research papers. My Master of Arts degree is in Psychology in Education. The courses for this program were in Developmental Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation. Developmental Psychology includes cognitive and language growth. Measurement and Evaluation includes the assessment of individuals, groups, programs and products. I have teaching experience with kindergarten through high school. I home schooled my daughter in 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 8th grades. She scored very high on her SATs (790 out of 800 in Critical Reading.)
