A Little Bit About Me...

In teaching I am basically a generalist and humanist. My background is in mathematics and the sciences, but with a solid foundation in the humanities. Practically, I have never stopped learning something new and in addition to my formal credential I have done university course work in languages, forestry, animal husbandry, and sports training. I believe my teaching style is one in which I help students make associations by way of discovery and interconnections. Much of mathematics can describe the natural world and I attempt to make mathematics both interesting and fund by drawing on these associations.

I received my BS in Mathematics and my MS in Industrial Mathematics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. During my time as a graduate student, I was a teacher of College Algebra, Trigonometry, and of Calculus. I also tutored nearly every undergraduate mathematics course offered at NMT, including calculus, vector analysis, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, etc. I also took many Physics courses and have a very solid fundamental understanding of Newtonian mechanics. I am a college graduate with a Bachelor's in Economic Theory and Theater Production. Currently, I am finishing my Masters in Education. In addition, I have a New Mexico teacher's license and am "highly qualified" by the State in Math. I first began tutoring, especially math, in high school and have continued to do so over the years. I am highly motivated when it comes to teaching. And, am a believer that there is more than one way to learn.
I believe in making subject matter relevant, not to mention interesting. Having different methods of explanation is key. As well as a solid foundation in the material.
