I have worked with children for over ten years. I specialize in helping children who struggle with comprehending math and English. I understand that all children cannot learn in the same manner. As a tutor, I use several different curriculum materials to help students who do not learn with just paper and pencil alone. Math and English can be abstract to young students; and very difficult when one does not understand how to reach students. I find that students benefit greatly by becoming active participants in the teaching process. I try to develop a curriculum that students help determine, and create lessons that center around topics that interest the students and apply to their lives in a real and practical manner. I firmly believe that every child is capable of learning hard concepts, they just have to be taught in a way that is applicable to them. So I first like to get to know the student and try to figure out their learning style and teach them according to how they learn. This helps me figure out where the root of the problem is so I can fix it. Then I like to use a lot of visual and hands-on lessons because children need that to really grasp concepts and to apply it in different situations.
