While at Springfield College I started tutoring some of my fellow students in the areas of math and science for a little extra cash. I have always wanted to mimic the kind of tutoring I received as a struggling math student in middle school. I was never the best at math until I started to receive tutoring and everything started to click. The extra help I got in math was essential to my studies at the university level and all my previous coursework leading up. I want to be that tutor who helped everything click.
When I tutor I try and understand where they are having trouble and try to find the best way of explaining in a way that is beneficial to the student.

My comments on tutoring Chemistry : Have received A's in all chemistry courses in high school, college

I am a visceral teacher. I like to use illustrations whenever possible, videos, photographs, drawings... I like making connections to things that may seem unrelated - I think this strengthens neuro-pathways and thought processes. I also think that laughter stimulates learning, so I like students to feel at ease - I will make myself look dumb if it will make someone laugh and relax.
I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner. This includes using diagrams, creating a real-life situations where the concept is applied, drawing analogies that to which they can relate, or developing a game out of the lesson. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 25 years experience in the civil engineering field, specifically the water resources area. I started substitute teaching at both the Lincoln Community High School and Hartem School District in 2009. I also started tutoring for Lincoln College in the Academic Success Center, last year. I tutor biology, chemistry, but especially math of all levels ... including statistics and geometry. I have been tutoring math from beginning basic math through advanced calculus and statistics at Lincoln College for the past 2 semesters. I have also been substitute teaching at Hartem Elementary and High School; and Lincoln Community High School for the past 2 semesters.
