A Little Bit About Me...

I find the most useful way to instill knowledge is to reach that place where the student sees practical value in what he or she is learning. I always knew when the moment hit by the expressions on my students' faces. The students I taught were majoring in art and culinary skills, mostly. Consequently they saw little practical value in learning composition or understanding prepositions. I strived to help my students put theoretical classroom knowledge into context for the working world they would discover upon graduation. All students can learn, but in different ways. I, for one, learn best by watching how something is done. I can read about it, or hear a lecture about it, but seeing it helps me understand the subject. This type of teaching would be done with movies, drawing or acting out the situation. In my teaching, I try to use all methods available to me to help the students learn and to use their creativity. I especially try to get students to work in groups and to share their work with each other. I find that pier groups provide the best help in understanding the subject matter. The classroom should be a learning place of activities and fun.
