My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I studied Shakespeare in high school literature classes. I also minored in Theatre in college. Shakespeare made up a large portion of my theatre studies.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience teaching not only at the college level, but also for grades 6-12. I was an English teacher during my most recent stay in France and I've tutored Accounting at Houston Community College. As an English teacher, I taught not only grammar and comprehension specifically to students that had issues with the grammar of English, but I also was involved in teaching Shakespeare to the students as well as many different forms of English literature. In addition, I have acted as a French tutor for many years.
I try to avoid lecture in teaching. For me, personally, instruction comes from helping the student understand the material on their own without having to directly be told everything. I believe there are three steps in learning: instruction, practice and review. In the instruction phase, the teacher takes the reins in the class and explains the concept in full. In the practice phase, students try to apply the concept on their own with teacher support. In the final stage, when the concept comes up again, the teacher relies on the students to apply the concept independently. Of course, if the students cannot apply the concept independently, it may be necessary to re-visit step one.
