LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.
My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.

I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy engaging the student in discussion of the topic and helping them experience the events in History rather than just remembering dates and locations.
I am currently pursuing a degree in secondary education with a specialization in American History. I have a passion for the subject and for helping students succeed. I just completed my practicum last fall and was active in a 10th grade World History class for about 10 hours a week.
