Experienced instructor with 99 ASVAB

I will begin by walking you through how to solve the problems. After a few sessions of that, we will then move on to simple exams taken by the student to gauge your knowledge. Finally, we will end with a practice exam to ensure that you are at the appropriate level.
I am an instructor at Virginia College and VC recently cancelled its ASVAB tutoring program. I have had many successful students go through the program, but due to funding constraints the college can no longer support the initiative. Nevertheless, I am going to continue tutoring and hope to see many students pass all of their exams! J.D. Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, 2010 B.S. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching motto is simple, practice makes perfect. The more you practice solving physics problems the easier it gets. Furthermore, I believe if one is having a tough time solving the problems, one must understand the physical concepts and be comfortable with the mathematics required to solve the problems.
As a graduate student at Rice University, I taught labs for the undergraduate students and was also an exam grader. Furthermore, upon the completion of my doctorate degree in physics, I taught physics for six and a half years at the university level. Following this, I taught mathematics on the high school level and have been a tutor on the high school and middle school level. Thus, I have several years of experience in a teaching or tutoring capacity. As an undergraduate, I completed my degree with a 3.5 grade point average and had all A's and B's during my graduate education.

A Little Bit About Me...

Students learn differently, and I try to find each student’s comfort zone for learning. Some teachers may not have the chance to really analyze a student’s learning needs due to the other 30 students in the class. That is why I think I have such an impact on all my students. I am patient and easy going person and like to provide a relaxed environment for the student, which I find enables them to ask more questions and feel more confident.
My interest in mathematics and physics led me to my college program of Civil Engineering. Along the way to earning my BS in Civil Engineering, I was exposed to a broad range of mathematics and different areas of physics. I immediately noticed that I excelled in these subjects and took the opportunity to tutor others in these disciplines for two years while in college. Since graduation, I have continued tutoring mathematics and physics for ma ... read more

Throughout my undergraduate experience, I worked with many of my fellow students to help them better understand chemistry concepts. I have gained experience in all of the major fields of chemistry including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry. I have even completed inorganic/physical chemistry research which I presented to other scientists. I currently work as a chemist, which keeps my skills sharp.
I believe I have a great teaching style which enables me to relate concepts in a way that any new student to chemistry can understand. I love using visual aids to help get new ideas across, since I myself is a visual learner. I also like to get the student involved so that I know they are grasping the concepts and not just the answers.

More About This Tutor...

I have an earned M.S. and B.S. in Applied Mathematics which have given me the needed skills to work with students. I also have worked in a Math tutoring lab for about a year. In addition, I have taught a summer algebra class as well as graded statistics papers for professors.
I really love helping students understand the material. One rule that I do have is that students should at least try and not be lazy about the matter. I remember seeing one quote way back when I first started mathematics, "Mathematics is not a spectator sport." Now this may sound cheesy but this is the truth in order to get through a math class you must work hard at it and practice, practice, and practice some more and if truely don't get something I will be more than glad to help.

I am an advocate of self-discovery and prefer to ask questions of my students rather than answer them. I believe that if a student can discover the answer for themselves, rather than being told the answer, they will have a deeper and longer-lasting understanding of the material. I believe each student learns differently and I try to learn what works best for each student and adapt my style accordingly. I also have a passion for teaching effective study skills so that students can continue to learn on their own. I prefer to provide the tools to learn rather than the answers, and in this way leave a lasting impact on my students.
The majority of my formal teaching experience has come in the past four years during my graduate career, during which I taught 3 semesters of college-level introductory and cellular biology labs. Additionally, I have worked extensively with incoming gra ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am currently teaching at the School of the Arts in North Charleston. This is my first year teaching and I am working towards my certification and toward my Masters in Education in Languages at the College of Charleston. I have been tutoring both English and Spanish since 2001 while I was working towards my degree in Spanish.
Through my teaching experience, I have acquired the ability to be a teacher that will guide and motivate students to be enthusiastic learners. A Little Bit About Me...

As an educator, I strive to improve the student's study habits, test taking skills and overall understanding of the subject. I am patient and encourage questions from the student. Also, I believe that "hands on" practice is the best way to really learn a subject. I like to break things down into smaller parts and let the student practice and grasp each concept instead of just showing them how to do it. Repetition is important to the learning process, so I frequently use practice problems to reinforce the daily lesson. I also like to identify the source of the problem and fix it even if I have to go back a few levels from what the student is currently learning. Although my natural style of teaching is patient and persistent, I am capable of adapting to many different styles to ensure that the student learns.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I am tutoring, my main focus is to explain the math and science in a way that is easier to understand, mostly by using visuals. I try to get a good understand of the knowledge of math that the students already possesses and what they need to improve. I also try to include many example problems and show how the technique is applied. Finally, the student will be asked to work some problems to better understand the application. Most of my tutoring has been with college students, but I am also comfortable assisting high school students.
Throughout my college career I have Tutored other students, usually adults, but even some younger students. My tutoring experience is mostly based on college physics, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Also, I have a good understanding of higher level mathematics involving differential equations and complex analysis. When helping others wit ... read more
