I have been a Special Education teacher for 24 years. During that time, I was an Assistant Teacher, with several elementary schools in Mississippi. I was chosen as one of Mississippi's most outstanding teachers, in 1995. That same year, I was chosen, out of all teachers in the United States, to study at George Washington's home in Virginia. I believe all students can learn. Every student has different learning styles and I believe if a teacher can make learning fun, students will remember what that teacher has tried to teach.

The key to successful teaching is finding out how your student learns; auditory, visual, didactic or with a combination of learning styles. I use a combination of visual and didactic aids in my lectures. I encourage an environment where questions are welcomed. I want students to not just learn the material but understand it as well. I try to make learning fun and relate it to things that they may find interesting. I am a college graduate that has spent the past 8 years working in health and science education and development. During this time I have not only developed educational programs for low literacy and bilingual groups, written grants for government funding for Health educations, but I learned how to educate people of all types of literacy levels.

I have served as a substitute teacher in Hayward, CA for 1 1/2 years. I worked as a tutor for Learning & Loving It in San Jose, CA for 3 years. I served as a tutor and teacher of adult education in Loganville, GA for 1 year. I am currently on the substitute teacher roster for the Vicksburg School District, and I have been so for two years. I first introduce myself and get to know a little about the student I am tutoring. Then, I establish a baseline of what they have learned so that I can direct my attention to their strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I get into the material with the student and show them how and why the material is important and applicable in the world in which we live.

As a graduate of Mississippi State University, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I had the opportunity to intern in the West Point Public School District where I taught fourth grade and kindergarten. I learned valuable information while teaching that will help me throughout my teaching career such as how to plan and lead effective lessons, how to differentiate instruction, and collaboration to create an creative learning environment.

My motto is simple: In all of your getting, get an understanding. I truly belive that every child can learn. Even a child with a disadvantage still comes with an advantage because they are always getting some help. It also depends on the child also. We must both be focused on the task at hand and together we must tackle it until it is thoroughly understood. For the last past six years I have enjoyed my students. They never cease to amaze me with all the many things that they can grasp when you try. I was an assistant in JPS. Tutoring was my job. I have also tutored other grades up to fifth. I really enjoy kids and I always wish the best for them. I have also had to be the actual teacher for the remainder of the school year and did grades and end of the school year things due to the teachers' emergency leave.
