At Amherst College, we were encouraged to pursue a wide variety of subjects in addition to our major. I studied math for several years, some Biology, Latin and Greek. I had a semester of graduate school at Iowa in Classics. At Tulane, I studied advanced statistics as well as marketing. I had two years of Spanish at DMACC. I also studied Bosnian and German at DMPS Continuing Education. For all standardized tests, I always scored in the top 1% including the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GMAT. I have been tutoring students in Spanish, English Literature, Chemistry, Math and Government.
I really enjoy getting people of all ages to learn. My day job is with Easter Seals where I work with all ages and disabilities. As an Iowa State graduate, I was very driven to not only achieve a great education but to actually learn the material set forth by my professors. At Iowa State I started with as a sociology major but throughout my career I was able to find additional interests and ended my tenure at Iowa State with a degree in Sociology and Political Science, with minors in Criminal Justice and Philosophy. Throughout these studies I have learned that basic logic can get around many of the learning impediments that individuals have. By getting on the same page with your students I believe that you are better able to relay the information to them in a way that they better understand. In my year of tutoring I have tutored students in Math, Sociology, Political Science, English and Philosophy.

In 2000 I volunteered in the local high school's journalism class because of my passion for writing. The following year I was offered a position as yearbook adviser, and I further developed my skills with high school students. Since 2004 I have been a private tutor, teaching all elementary subjects as well as most middle school and high school curriculum. In 2005 I began teaching annual writing workshops at Simpson College for 6th - 12th grade students. In 2006 I attended substitute teacher training, and I began substitute teaching in 2009. I also had the privilege of instructing college students in a Volunteer Income Tax site this year.
I am firm, fair, and friendly. I adapt lessons to the student's learning style, bearing in mind what the student needs for success in the classroom. I make learning fun.
