My comments on tutoring Literature : I have read a wide variety of authors and even won a scholarship for an essay based on Plato's writings.

I love working one on one with a student. Wherever the student needs help or wants improvement, that is where I meet them. I'm very patient and extremely friendly, and I am determined to help a student understand in any way I can! I also think cookies help studying :) Sometimes, unusual methods like movie clips, cartoons, reading passages, or other "real-life" experiences help to solidify a topic, so I'm not afraid to think outside the box!

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion. This ensures that the desired cognitive skills and strategies are being learned.

I have been an elementary school teacher for nearly 18 years. I taught for 7 years in Elk Creek and 10 years in Los Molinos where I currently teach 2nd and 3rd grade. I earned Glenn County Teacher of the Year in 1998 and Tehama County Teacher of the Year in 2007. I was also named Glenn County Teacher of the Week for Channel 7 News in 1999. From 1992 to 1996 I trained in study skills for the History and Geology departments at Chico State through the Equity Services Office. This included a 3 hour training session each week in addition to tutoring individually and in groups for struggling college students. This was 4 of the greatest years ever!
