Math and Business Tutor

I have completed all College level Math classes for an Electical Engineering degree. Math is my area of expertise. I also have several other areas that I have tutored and been able to help students (see my course list). My experience includes 25 years of real world experience in the engineering and business fields which when balanced with my book based knowledge has allowed me to improve the tutoring experience by providing concrete, real world examples within several study areas.

My comments on tutoring Social Studies : Certified in Social Studies 6th-12th Grade

I believe in teaching to the student and making the subject matter relevant and easy to comprehend. I encourage dialogue an debate in order to fully engage all of my students.
I have been working with the education field for 13 years. I have primarily worked in special education which has given the unique experience o teaching or co-teaching all subject areas. I am currently the special education coordinator a charter school in Philadelphia. Prior to working in Philadelphia, I taught social studies, math, English and GED preparation for adults. I can simplify the class instruction and teach any subject area. Other experience include working as a dean of students, and various other leadership roles.

As an graduate, I have always wanted to earn my degree in Business. Once I received my BA, I wanted more so I continued my educations and received my MBA. Both degrees are in Business Administration. I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.

I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! In 2002 I went back to school to earn my bachelor's degree so I could continue on with my Masters. Two years later I graduated with my Master's of Education in Counseling. A situation came into play at the school and I was asked to "fill-in" for a 7th grade Language Art Teacher. She never returned and I taught the classes from October until the end of the school year.
