Effective teaching requires goal-setting and patience on the parts of both the instructor and the student. We are a team! I am simply there to facilitate their education. Most of what I teach is enhanced by my approach to helping the student learn. I seek to ask them to "teach" me by offering questions to them. This has proven very effective once the foundational background is established. I thoroughly enjoy working with students, and provide fun yet focused tutoring. I hold a Masters degree in Linguistics, and have teaching experience for students of all ages, in various settings, including as a substitute teacher in public schools, a full-time teacher of ESL at the University of Iowa, an adjunct ESL teacher at Northern Virginia Community College, and ESL/SAT tutor with a private company. I most often teach English, Communications, and Writing skills to students. I am friendly and make students feel very comfortable, and am great at getting them motivated.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a strong appreciation for education and learning new things. My educational experience was strengthened when I attended Cornell College, which has a strong liberal arts program. I immediately took an interest in the sciences and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-medicine. My education was additionally complimented when I immersed myself in several language, mathematic, English, and humanity courses, which gave me a strong diversity in the liberal arts curriculum. Due to the smaller class sizes at Cornell, most of the exams were given in essay form, which strengthened my writing skills immensely. During the course of the last 11 years after graduating, I have tutored students in English, mathematics, and the sciences.
