A Little Bit About Me...

In the past years I have worked as a Language Consultant ( German language) for the company Hansa One. Created and personalized the curriculum for my students. Recommended and used my own material and literature. Completed over 250 hours of German lessons in person and online. My student body comprised mainly of adults who went through cultural assimilation and of students who learned the language in order to apply to German Universities. I provide language and culture courses in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian to US diplomats and the US military. I have been working in government sector for 4 years now. I am certified in Latin. Experienced, enthusiastic, and enjoyable teacher.

I have taught Latin, Spanish, ESL, English, and history in a number of situations and locales. I am now teaching a few classes at a high school and middle school in Virginia Beach. I have taught on almost all levels from junior high school to graduate college classes. I have taught in five countries and have much experience in cross-cultural situations. I am very adept at teaching the basics and have published a textbook and many articles on teaching internationally and domestically.
My teaching style is relaxed but challenging. I am very personable, patient,and flexible and gear my methodology to the needs and personality of the student.

I am an experienced Latin teacher with a BA in Classics from the University of Tennessee and an MA in Classics from the University of Virginia. I have also traveled extensively throughout the Mediterranean to study and excavate the physical remains of classical antiquity. My teaching career began at the University of Virginia. As a graduate teaching assistant, I taught sections of first and second year Latin to undergraduates. After graduating, I taught Latin for three years at Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping to educate people. I have earned a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Accounting. Through my education and experience I have an extensive set of business and grammar skills. I have completed four years of Latin and enjoyed it. During high school I took AP History and Government and past the AP Exam. I enjoy studying for Test Prep and enjoy helping students achieve their goals. I have tutored students for many years and enjoy working with students.
I want to help and make a difference in each student that I tutor. I like to reach out to all of my students. I learn each of my students name and have them see that I want them to well. I also feel that students should be given assignments to work on during class and not lectured the entire time.

I have been a teacher in public schools, private schools and college . Retired in 2007 from Newport News Public Schools with 24 years experience. Now working part time in a Catholic school in the mornings during the school year.I am available in the summer and most afternoons during the school year. I don't mind tutoring on a part-time basis to get ready for a big test or just catch-up. I have lived in Spain for 9 months where I became fluent in Spanish. I also speak French. I have taught at Bridgewater College, TCC in Virginia Beach. I have had over 3000 students over the years.
