As a teacher there is nothing more rewarding than the look on a child's face when a skill is mastered or a mystery becomes an understood concept. My teaching style is more student centered. I believe that involving the students with hands on activities allows them to grasp and understand certain topics easier. Especially in a science classroom where we are studying intangible topics, like the core of the earth, or the stars, or the atmosphere, students may have difficulties understanding these ideas from a strictly lecture based approach to educating. Also I understand that schools are becoming more and more diverse regarding the student body population. After graduating from Susquehanna University in 1993, I began substitute teaching for my former elementary school in Lincroft, NJ. I then took a full-time preschool teaching position for one year. During that time, I also tutored a first-grader weekly in math and language arts for a span of approximately nine months.
