My usual style is to first let you work through a problem as best as you can. This helps identify problem areas which we can work on together. After going through examples aimed specifically at increasing ability in those issues, we can try a similar problem. I find it to be very helpful having someone who can identify where the problem is, and can go through a simpler example which highlights the area needing work. 20 Years of Teaching Experience, Strong Math Background

I have taught at a career and technical center as an applied math specialist for over twenty years. Having engineering training gives me a strong background in math. My further training in special education (and literacy) give me the ability to reach my students both theoretically and intuitively. My strength as a teacher is best in one-to-one situations where I can help motivate my students to reach those "aha"moments, showing them ways to take charge of their own learning and become successful in all they are willing to work at.

My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : Pre-Algebra involves taking everything you've learned up until now in math and using it to build a foundation for algebra, and it would be my absolute pleasure to help you build the confidence to succeed! I am patient and more than willing to go over concepts multiple times.

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.
Hello everyone! I am available for tutoring as well as teaching music lessons. I have experience tutoring students who may need more time to process information than is provided in a classroom setting in all subjects, and I'm great when it comes to communicatin ... read more

I recently completed a two-month internship in TAS/OTS in EY this summer. From this experience, I gained valuable knowledge in the advisory area. I participated in a mobile internet App project for a startup technical company. The major goal for the project is to do financial forecasting for the company. In the group, my job was to help create a business plan report and translate from Chinese to English. I also worked on cash flow forecasting. As a team, we did a lot of calculation and researching of the data from client in order to evaluate the net income for up to three years. Through the estimated net income, we could evaluate how much the company need to as an investment and the risk level of the business. From this project, I applied finance and accounting skills from my MSA program. During the time at Deloitte in the summer 2012, I learned to use audit system 2 which is audit so ... read more

You can preach all you want to children, but if you don't teach, there will be no learning. I believe that children will learn from someone they trust to talk to and from someone who they trust to give them the correct answers to their questions. I enjoy being that person. I like being the person who will sit next to them, talk to them, and help them out. I do not want to be the person across from them speaking without any word from my students. I am teacher who provides my students with energy to succeed. I want to keep their attention for as long as I can on the given criteria, boring or not. Sometimes all someone needs to succeed is a little bit of help and who am I to not offer it to them?
I have taught in many areas of study. Since I was young, I taught my younger family members the importance of manners, honesty, care, and responsibility. I believe this has carried into my r ... read more

I try to relate to the children as best as I can and make the learning fun for them whenever possible. I am easy going, polite and helpful. I also talk to them about other things besides homework and studying, such as personal problems. My students trust me and this makes it easier for me to help them and to teach them. Most of my students were high school freshmen and sophomores.

While working on my associates degree I tutored pre-calculus and statistics. I also worked briefly with catholic charities tutoring all subjects for high school students in need. I then completed my bachelors degree while tutoring part time at SUNY Oswego and independently with a high school student in Math and AP physics. I am currently working with that same H.S. student and now I am also working with a third grade student as well (also in math).
I enjoy sharing knowledge with anyone who can benefit from my experience. I love mathematics, statistics and physics and I attempt to pass that enthusiasm to my students. I understand that there are many people who have trouble with math and science skills and becaus of that I try to explain technical concepts with easy to understand examples before submercing the student into computations that are difficult. After graduating from Ithaca College cum laude, I completed my B.S. in Speech Language Pathology in 2 and 1/2 years. I was a business major my freshman year at Siena College and realized I would rather be working to help others then sitting at a desk for the rest of my life. I have volunteered in a kindergarten classroom for one year, working with groups of 4-5 children in learning centers. I have provided speech therapy for two clients under the age of 8 during my clinical practicum in Spring 2009 at the Sir-Alexander Ewing- Ithaca College Speech and Hearing Clinic. I have developed language goals for a 4 year old with a disability while involved with the Racker's Swim Buddy Program in Ithaca, NY. I have taught now for 5 years. 6th grade for 2, 5th grade for 2, and tutored as well as substitute taught for several districts in the area. I recently graduated from SUNY Oswego with a MSed in literacy, grades B-6 and have a BS in childhood education. I establish a rapport with my students and their parents, with the understanding that their needs are my primary concern. Lesson preparation is extensive, with goal setting in mind at all times. I have high expectations for my students. Student achievement, in and out of the classroom, is a personal goal.
Because I was a "non-tradional" student, one with my own children, I knew several things from the start: first and foremost, I will always treat students the way I wish my own children are treated by their teachers. In addtion, I have an understanding that not all children, nor adults, learn the same and need to be offered a variety ... read more

I really enjoy teaching and working with people of all ages. I believe everyone is able to grasp the concept of math and science when taught effectively and with patience. I am a very easy going and friendly person, and I have been told I explain things with enough detail to understand, but not too much to bog down the information. I am a firm believer in teaching through fun riddles and games, and always relating the problem back to the student's personal life, hobbies, etc. I honestly believe everyone is able to be great at math and science, and a great educator will make a world of difference in pursuing the sciences.
As a recent graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, I am excited to begin helping high school and college students with math and science, as well as technical and essay writing. I have earned a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and a MS in En ... read more
