I like to adapt my style to the student's personality and learning style. Some students learn best through visual methods, some auditory and some prefer experiential learning. While textbooks often provide a good foundation, I like to use "real world" teaching if possible. For example, I might have a student act out a situation (renting a car, for example) that he or she may encounter in real life. I am also very patient and this is a key factor for good tutoring.
I am passionate about learning and education. As a native of Princeton, NJ, I have tutored Princeton students in English for almost 20 years. My teaching philosophy is based on the practice of communicating clearly. I would approach each ‘essential understanding’ with the easiest and most thorough method for each student. I always encourage students to establish an understanding as to why they are solving the problem.
