As a foster parent, I tutored our first child as he progressed through kindergarten and the first grade. His previous school experience was lacking at best, and he had little confidence in his scholastic ability. I was able to pinpoint his natural aptitude--mathematics--and use it to help not only boost his self-esteem regarding academics, but also to tailor my approach to his other subjects as well. Since math is very much tied to logic, using logical constructs to aid him in his critical thinking proved fruitful in showing him how to solve problems regarding tasks such as alphabetization, grammar, and spelling, among others.

Education is a very important matter to me and always has been. Since first grade, I have wanted to be an educator and have always strived to achieve the greatest things that I could. I believe that it is vital to a student’s learning that the student should be pushed within their comfort level, to show themselves that they are capable of achieving great things. Even when we think we aren’t gaining anything from what we are doing there is a part that we keep with us. Everything is a learning experience if treated as such, and it does need to be made interesting and exciting because that is when the most knowledge is gained!
