I believe that students do not learn the same way. My teaching style incorporates all learning styles. When teaching a lesson I believe in using secondary reading sources, technology, video clip and other creative outlets. I believe that you must motivate the student to learn not thrust curriculum at them hoping it will sink in. I have five years of experience working with troubled youth and students with disabilities. At Hope College I received a liberal arts education. So even though I have a degree in music theatre, I am also well-educated in other fields. For instance I wasn't required to take Calculus in college, however, I took this challenging course and I passed the class with an A. I have also worked at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre as a teacher’s assistant and camp assistant the past three summers. These camps work with kids from ages 9-13. Along with looking out for the safety of the children, I participated in activities and helped come up with material. I have also worked as a director, producer, and a choreographer. I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old.
