Reading is one of my top subjects! I have MUCH training in the area of reading, including Comprehension, Fluency and Vocabulary. Trained w/ Ohio State presenters Fountas and Pinnell, Literacy First process from Florida, and Rigby in Louisville. Differentiating instruction for learners is my strength. I have taught Reading and Reading Comprehension is a Special Education resource setting, inclusion and collaboration (Both Regular and Special Education).

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a definitive teaching style. When teaching someone, I usually try to adapt to their learning style, and if they do not have a strategy that works, I help them develop a good learning style and get comfortable with it. I like to think I make learning difficult things more fun and approachable.
I absolutely love performing and any aspect of theatre. I love learning and growing in my theatre knowledge and experiences. I have been performing in some way my whole world and love to share my passion with others. I also love English and Shakespeare; obviously these both go hand in hand with theatre!

My comments on tutoring Reading : Orton Gillingham Certified Dyslexia Tutor

I am a reading tutor certified in the Orton Gillingham approach of treating dyslexia. I completed the initial Orton Gillingham certification program through the IMSLEC/Chidlren's Dyslexia Center. My training included 45 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours of practicum. The Orton Gillingham approach is widely used for individuals who have difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling. The approach is multi-sensory, structured and sequenced, explicit, cumulative, diagnostic, and prescriptive. Previously, I graduated from Ohio State University with a Master's degree in Teaching ESL K-12. I have five years of teaching experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very interactive teacher. I find it helpful for the students I work with if I am able to relate a lesson to something else with which they are familiar. I like to use tangible learning tools and hands on methods, allowing the student to get the most experience possible with a lesson in order to really grasp and have deep understanding of the material.
I am currently a tutor and mentor for a fifth grade child in Delaware, Ohio via the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I have gained a tremendous amount of experience working with this student in and out of the classroom, and it has allowed me to develop my teaching skills in all areas of curricula. I tutor my student in each and every one of her subjects. I also informally tutor some of my peers at Ohio Wesleyan University, particularly in Science classes, in which I am most experienced.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, which simply means that I couldn't decide between the other two areas of study I was considering: Early Childhood Education and History. I home schooled my youngest brother from the time he was in the sixth grade until he finished high school, so I have fairly broad experience in regards to subjects. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible.
