A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very interactive teacher. I find it helpful for the students I work with if I am able to relate a lesson to something else with which they are familiar. I like to use tangible learning tools and hands on methods, allowing the student to get the most experience possible with a lesson in order to really grasp and have deep understanding of the material.
I am currently a tutor and mentor for a fifth grade child in Delaware, Ohio via the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I have gained a tremendous amount of experience working with this student in and out of the classroom, and it has allowed me to develop my teaching skills in all areas of curricula. I tutor my student in each and every one of her subjects. I also informally tutor some of my peers at Ohio Wesleyan University, particularly in Science classes, in which I am most experienced.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and working with all of todays youth. My main joy is teaching science and math since they are the foundation of all engineering principles which makes society go forward everyday. I believe teaching should be one that uses the childs minds in discovery and actual examples.
Graduated from wright state university in 1993 with a bachelors of science degree in mechanical engineering. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in starting with the basics in all things. Reading starts with Phonics, and writing starts with Spelling and Vocabulary, as well as old-fashioned handwriting skills. An absolute staple of learning, in my opinion, is frequent reading for pleasure – whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, novels or comic books. I am patient and love to teach, even reluctant learners. I remember what it was like to not want to sit around and do schoolwork, so I don't expect children to be eager to do it. However, I know from experience that those reluctant learners can be turned into students who really enjoy discovering new information and discussing what they’ve learned. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is not typical since I am not a certified teacher. I am creative in my teaching style using a variety of techniques. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level. I believe that it is important to instill confidence in the student which raises expectations and increases motivation. I am very patient with a good sense of humor.
