I am particularly enthusiastic about teaching mathematics to all students, and my record documents this fact. As an undergraduate I studied education, and acquired a secondary education license while pursuing a rigorous mathematics curriculum. At Dartmouth I have devoted myself to helping my students learn the power and utility of mathematics. I strive to help students learn how mathematics is a relevant, useful and even enjoyable part of their lives as they become contributing members of society. Every one can learn. Sometimes an individual learns in their own unique style and finding that style is the key to teaching them. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. The amount of pride and prestige that comes from having figured out a problem on their own is the most important thing. I've always loved to read, I inhereited it from my father who got it from his father. I'm an avid writer as well. One way to inspire a student in these fields is to touch their sense of awe and amazement, another is to instill an appreciation for the usefulness and practicality of what is being taught. With either approach, it is helpful to gain an understanding of the student's interests, attitudes and learning style. I have graduated from San Antonio College with Honors (3.85), received an Honors List during 2009 as well. I am a faster learner, and enjoyed the education that I have received, too several business and computer courses while in college. I am comfortable teaching students in high school or college as well as non-traditional college students. I can easily work with students who struggle or with students who excel. The main point of my teaching is for the student to make progress. My lessons require participation and activity by the student with guidance and leadership from me. More than 1,000 students have been enrolled in my math classes over the past 5 years. I have worked with at least 100 students during 1:1 help sessions or professional tutoring. Topics include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, probability, statistics and physics.
