My comments on tutoring Journalism : AP English / Literature / Composition student.

I am ranked 12 ou of 496 in my class. I am an Honors and AP college student. I have a 4.83 grade point average. I take eight classes a day from 5:50am - 3:00pm. I am a voluntary tutor for students after school and I have been successfully doing that for a year now. I love working with studens and I get along with all of them because they are usually around my age as well.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I have a Journalism Degree from Iowa State University. I like to find the lead (most newsworthy point) to begin the story, make it clear and concise, and make it as complete and unbiased as possible.

I have a B.S. in Technical Journalism from Iowa State University. I worked on a sales magazine upon graduating until I was drafted into the armed forces, spending four years as a Navy Electronics Technician. On the G.I. Bill I did Television Production coursework at College of San Mateo and entered the Broadcast TV Graduate Program at San Francisco State. I did not complete my Master's degree, but my training and contacts made there led to a 35-year career in television and video editing.
Very informal and conversational. I like to laugh and joke as well as understand things that are challenging, to both pupil and teacher. Repetition with interesting variation, coming at a problem from different angles solidifies concepts and ideas in our heads.

Writing and reading has always been a constant in my life. I've worked as a writer for two magazines (in India) and have helped edit many papers and articles for non-profit organizations. For the past ten years I have worked for a non-profit organization as Staff Writer and Programs Officer and I had to use my writing skills to generate reports, proposals etc. While working full-time I was able to write two books of poetry (published by Apogee Press in Berkeley, CA) and I have just finished a non-fiction book. I enjoy helping young children discover the world of words and what is made with them.
I have not worked as an instructor in a school but all my life I have helped and tutored children in the community. I taught English to young monks in the Sakya Monastery in Nepal and also tutored young Tibetans new to English. I am patient, I have great imagination and I like witne ... read more

A recent graduate of California College of the Arts, where I received a Master’s in Writing, I have exceptional writing skills. As a tutor at California College of the Arts, I worked individually with students on their academic papers and theses, helping to improve their grammar, organization, content, research skills, and more. I was also a teaching assistant for a writing and literature course, in which I worked one-on-one with each student on his or her course work and class progress, in addition to creating class material and facilitating discussion. I’ve also had extensive experience teaching writing workshops at non-profit organizations like 826 Valencia and participating in after-school programs.

A Little Bit About Me...

My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literary skills concerning literary forms: folklore, poetry, short story, photography, personal essay, analytical essay. My two years of high school Spanish, one year of College French, and completion of breadth college requirements provide a slight ability for me to tutor Spanish and French language, computer navigation, basic algebraic math, and basic social studies. During the last three years I tutored ESL, reading, and Astronomy at Chaffey College, overlooked K-12 after-school P.E. programs with the Boys and Girls Club, and facilitated a course in wheelchair basketball and disability at UC Berkeley.
