My comments on tutoring Journalism : AP English / Literature / Composition student.

I am ranked 12 ou of 496 in my class. I am an Honors and AP college student. I have a 4.83 grade point average. I take eight classes a day from 5:50am - 3:00pm. I am a voluntary tutor for students after school and I have been successfully doing that for a year now. I love working with studens and I get along with all of them because they are usually around my age as well.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I have a Journalism Degree from Iowa State University. I like to find the lead (most newsworthy point) to begin the story, make it clear and concise, and make it as complete and unbiased as possible.

I have a B.S. in Technical Journalism from Iowa State University. I worked on a sales magazine upon graduating until I was drafted into the armed forces, spending four years as a Navy Electronics Technician. On the G.I. Bill I did Television Production coursework at College of San Mateo and entered the Broadcast TV Graduate Program at San Francisco State. I did not complete my Master's degree, but my training and contacts made there led to a 35-year career in television and video editing.
Very informal and conversational. I like to laugh and joke as well as understand things that are challenging, to both pupil and teacher. Repetition with interesting variation, coming at a problem from different angles solidifies concepts and ideas in our heads.

I have been in the field of education for approximately 14 years of which the last 8 years have been special education. I have worked with students of all ages, on all skill levels and many with learning disabilities through 8th grade. I was a high school art teacher for two years and I worked in a college library for four years. I am able and willing to work with students of all ages. Writing and reading has always been a constant in my life. I've worked as a writer for two magazines (in India) and have helped edit many papers and articles for non-profit organizations. For the past ten years I have worked for a non-profit organization as Staff Writer and Programs Officer and I had to use my writing skills to generate reports, proposals etc. While working full-time I was able to write two books of poetry (published by Apogee Press in Berkeley, CA) and I have just finished a non-fiction book. My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literary skills concerning literary forms: folklore, poetry, short story, photography, personal essay, analytical essay. My two years of high school Spanish, one year of College French, and completion of breadth college requirements provide a slight ability for me to tutor Spanish and French language, computer navigation, basic algebraic math, and basic social studies.
