Experienced, licensed and fun first grade teaacher!!

I have been teaching for 6 years now. I originally started out in Kindergarten which I taught for 3 years, then I student taught in 2nd grade and 3rd grade, taught 3rd grade for a year and now I have been happily teaching first grade for my second year. Throughout these 6 years I have also worked in an after school program grades k-4 and in a summer camp grades k-6. I have been tutoring for 4 years and have experience tutoring in grades 1-4.
I like to teach in a way that your child can relate to. I try to make whatever we are learning fun and relate to their everyday life. I have a lot of hands on manipulatives too in my classroom which I am able to bring with me when needed!

I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning.
I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

A Little Bit About Me...

I find working with children rewarding. I am patent and understanding and cater to individual learning styles. I use my artistic sense to help students visually understand learning. I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights.
