My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I am a Chemistry major at Missouri State University. I am a junior and have taken many upper level courses. I could certainly help with General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry needs.

I am a Chemistry major at Missouri State University. I took and excelled in General Chemistry 1 and 2. I just finished Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. I also just completed Inorganic Chemistry. I believe I would be suited to help with General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry needs. I would be happy to help with homework, quizzes and studying for tests.

doctorate in chemistry will tutor chemistry, physics, math

I taught 5 years of high school level science(chemistry, physics, biology, physical science), 3 years at university level, 1 year of chemistry at community college level. . During 5 years of teaching at the high school level, I worked with students rather than just lecturing to them. I developed a student centered understanding of what helps students learn. I brought the course material together in a way that was much easier for students to understand and remember. Student responses showed that they were successful in further pulling together the material to form their own understanding of the course content.

A Little Bit About Me...

My educational background is in chemistry and chemical engineering. My professional experience is in manufacturing, specifically in the area of specialty chemicals. I enjoyed the fast pace of the manufacturing environment, but have since moved from the Detroit area to the Springfield, MO, area. I am now in the process of obtaining my initial teaching certificate through ABCTE, which is a MO DESE-approved route for initial teaching certification. My goal for tutoring is the same as my goal for teaching: teach the students HOW TO LEARN, and show them how to use these skills to learn the specific subject. I look forward to sharing this knowledge, and witnessing the pride a student feels when he or she achieves mastery of a subject.
My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, ... read more

I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. That why its understandable that if they have someone to look up to, as i did, in a particular course they tend to do better and go beyond what they though originally possible.

Aspects of teaching that appeal to me the most are the fast-paced learning setting which offers the benefits of teacher and student time, the continuity of care, and the pleasure of seeing students learn over time. I enjoy the versatility in balancing direct teaching and mentoring, interacting with students, and student progress management. While I was teaching at St. Patrick, in the summer 2008, and tutoring students at Williams College, I found that expressing my love and enthusiasm for math created a learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity in the students. My goal always is to create an environment where there is no stigma attached to liking and being good at math.
My recent personal experiences have helped me to develop a heightened sense of compassion and an appreciation for teaching. When I volunteered to teach Mathematics and Business Studies (Commerce, Acco ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated summa cum laude in the Honors College at Missouri State with a degree in cell and molecular biology and extensive studies in math and physics. I have been working as a private tutor in math and science for 10 years, working with students in upper elementary through college. I have been a certified teacher since 2009, and I currently teach 5th grade math.
My first responsibility is the empowerment of my students. I always want my students to have a concrete sense of motivation and what their goals are, even if it's just getting a passing grade. Next, I want my students to believe that they are capable of reaching their goals. If they are capable of performing under one set of circumstances, it's possible to perform under any set of circumstances, especially tests. After that, we get down to the brass tacks of learning: How the student learns best, what strategies we ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As part of being a natural speaker, I love communicating with people on several different levels of communication. I always try and determine what works best for the student in order for them to learn the subject material like illustrations, reading the textbook, or using a computer-based program. I also like to use example problems to reinstate the concept ideas of the materials. I use analogies in order to help the student to think about concepts in a different manner, usually resulting in comprehension. I like to throw in a little humor from time to time to help the student to relax and feel more comfortable. Also if the environment permits, I love to use hands-on experience in order to help students to understand concepts.
During my Associates degree, I enjoyed the opportunity to work in the Excel/SSS student-tutoring department. I was recommended by several of my profess ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Throughout high school and college, I performed at an academic level well above average. As a result, I often found myself helping my fellow students. As part of my graduate assistantship at Missouri State, I work in the math tutoring lab several hours a week, tutoring (primarily) algebra and calculus students. I also teach MTH 102, which is approximately equivalent to high school Algebra II. I also have a great deal of experience in history, literature, English, and the natural sciences and have helped other students in these fields in the past.
Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years. I am very patient and able to adapt to the student with whom I am working. I am a firm believer that learning, and learning math especially, is not a spectator sport an ... read more

I earned my AA and then pursued a BS degree in chemistry. After college I worked at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site working in the quality control department. I worked my way to lead laboratory technician then to the supervisor of the lab. During this tenure I was responsible for training the other technicians in methods and new techniques. I also helped develop a new system of training to help decrease the time needed to train an individual and remove unnecessary redundant tactics. During my time in the quality control department I developed a high skill of detail and fast pace work ethic.

Then after I felt the individual had grasped the knowledge, have them repeat the knowledge back with minimal assistance. Once the individua ... read more

Education and a desire to help others learn has always been a strong emphasis in my life. I earned a BS in Philosophy and Religion which has enabled me to comprehend students and the way people think. I also graduated with a pre-medical emphasis. As I worked through the science requirements for pre-med, I fine tuned my problem solving skills which has enabled me to help students who are struggling in these areas. During the past four years I have tutored students in algebra, physics, chemistry, Spanish (I speak fluent Spanish), and biology.
I love seeing people succeed in something they have struggled with. I am easy to get along with and patient. I firmly believe in letting students work through their problems instead of showing them the answer and having them copy it. I am sure that everybody has the capability of reaching their academic goals, some subjects just take a little mo ... read more
