A Little Bit About Me...

I am a high school special education teacher with a primary focus on ELA. Currently, I co-teach in integrated classrooms, grades 9, 11, and 12, with regular education teachers and we have designed a curriculum focusing on intensive writing to assist our students in passing the NYS ELA Regents. We have a 91% passing success rate for both regular education and special needs students. My strategies with special needs students is designed around their disability and I work with them on “coping” mechanisms to level the playing field to allow them to be successful on exams and in life. I have had experience with individual tutoring of students out on medical leave in my district as well as working with the 21st Century Program which is run through the state on a grant. I am currently a substitute teacher and work everyday in one of four school districts in the Rochester area. I enjoy helping and tutoring kids. I teach ESL to adults on Monday and Wednesday nights and that is very similar to tutoring. I believe tutoring is very rewarding as a teacher and for the student.

I have been teaching for 21 years now (wow, that's gone by fast!) and I love every second of what I do. I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading.
I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive.
