Effective, caring tutoring from an experienced tutor

I summarize my approach to tutoring with "3 E's": Enthusiasm, Engagement, and Encouragement. I try hard to make each session fun and to engage the student in seeking the solution, rather than just teaching him or her a method.
I have been tutoring in math since I was in Jr High. Initially my students were sisters and brothers, then nephews and nieces, and finally I began tutoring as a second career. My background includes 30 years as an engineer and engineering manager, as well as teaching math at the community college level and volunteering as an adult literacy tutor. I love applying math to real world problems, and I do my best to come up with pertinent examples to help a student learn a new concept.

Over twenty years success in teaching, including homeschooling my own four children, has made me an exceptional tutor. I love children, care about their lives and academic progress, and have the experience of classroom teaching to help me relate to students' needs. I am equally at home in the classroom, in groups, in person one-on-one and online.
Caring, concerned, earnest, fun, relaxed

- Five year tutoring experience. - Tutored all ages, from basic arithmetic to Algebra 2. - Taught several math classes, but majority of experience with one on one tutoring. - Taught a variety of students with numerous math needs, helping achieve better test scores, easiest and faster homework, quicker arithmetic calculation, and helping math to not be such a daunting subject.
Engaged style that is geared towards personalization to the student. Teaching method can range from following along in the book, or with working on problem areas (depending on needs). I enjoy not simply teaching how to do it, but the why and how it works.

Competent Math Tutor @UNC Asheville. Have your child excel.

I am employed as a Math Tutor at a company in Asheville. Before this, I lived in Raleigh where I worked for several distinguished companies as a Math Tutor. I have taught SAT Math prep at Cary Academy during the last two summers and at Roxboro Community School where I worked primarily as a Spanish Teacher.
I like to use examples and cater my lessons to what the student needs to work on (i.e. homework, test-prep). I also differentiate my style based on whether the student learns best through audio, visual, or kinesthetic means. I am a great listener and am able to identify where the student needs help and how to best bolster their academic ability and confidence.

I try to alleviate math anxiety, and introduce thoughtfulness as a way to solve problems. I teach how to understand math rather than just mimicking the behavior of the teacher. Math is about putting two and two together more than it is about learning how to add and subtract. If you would like to contact me it's probably best to call or text me as I may not see messages on here. 704 300 1027
I've been teaching college and high school level mathematics for over 6 years. I have been tutoring math and sciences over a decade. I've worked as a Statistician private contractor for about a year for Hospira and Partners BHM, and I worked in math education software design for about a year as a content editor and tester.

I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. I would also focus on teaching proper study habits so the individuals can apply them and possibly not need a tutor in the future.
I have wanted to help others learn for as long as I can remember; even as early as the fourth grade I was helping my classmates with assignments. I have always loved learning and helping others to learn. I earned a BS in Psychology in coll ... read more
