I believe everyone has the chance to succeed if they are given the right opportunity. I believe everyone learns differently and therefore catering to one's individual needs is important. I myself am a visual and hands-on learner and because of this would most likely try to incorporate this in my teaching style.
I have recently returned to school to pursue my teaching license in secondary education in English. I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. It is important to remember that one of the cornerstones of teaching is making the subject matter interesting and relevant to the student's experiences. I believe it is also important to focus on a student's strengths rather than their weaknesses. As in many areas of life, teaching also requires patience. From my experience, children benefit greatly from an easy-going approach where they are regarded as equals and treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

A Little Bit About Me...

If I could choose one word to represent the way in which I do things it would have to be integrity. I choose this word because it implies a transition from knowing to acting in accordance with one's sense of self as a whole. By bridging the gap between tutor to student I participate in an act of truthfulness which is mutually beneficial. I encourage intelligence, creativity, and development in myself and those around me. I am fun loving and eager to help others. I also have plenty of group-work experience from my communication minor and English comp workshops. While in college my professors often paired me up with the struggling students because of my strong writing skills.

I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. As writing in general falls into disrepair, those who can write clearly and read critically will have an edge in every institution they enter--from the University, all the way to the workplace.
I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. I am easy-going and patient, but I take language and writing very seriously. There is no excuse for poor or careless writing, and I believe that an easily-taught, simple approach, can unlock the potential of any writer.
