My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : I have taught many lessons on strategies to utilize during tests that have increased student's grades significantly.

I am a Social Studies teacher in the state of Pennsylvania. I graduated from an NCATE accredited university that has a rigorous education program. In that program, I was required to teach elementary students, middle school students, high school students, college students, and adult classes. I have been teaching for three years and tutoring for five years. I have taught multiple types of learners in multiple subjects with a significant amount of success.
I am a great speaker, and I can easily relate to my students. I push my students thoroughly to reach their objectives, because I do not believe there is anyone who cannot learn a subject. I have never had a student fail on my watch, and I do not intend to ever have that happen if a student is trying. If you have the will to learn, I will see to it that you increase your grade.

A Little Bit About Me...

I returned to school in 2007 to pursue a career in education. In several corporate positions, I was responsible for training new employees in various store operations. I have volunteered as a teacher in my church and taught Sunday School at the middle school level. During my courses and student teaching, I utilized many hands-on and inquiry-based tools to help students learn new concepts. Because I am certified in Elementary Education, I have a solid background in many academic disciplines.
I believe in a constructivist approach to education. Stusents come with prior knowledge of topics. My goal is to get those students to connect prior knowledge with new information. I also believe that there are mltiple ways that students learn. They can have multiple intelligences in several areas, such as artistic, kinesthetic, or visual and spatial. My challenge is to assess each stud ... read more

I would describe my teaching style as hands on and according to multiple learning styles. I understand that students learn best when they have the option of working with material objects. I also realize that students all learn in different ways and therefore I try to teach to each student's learning style. If a student doesn't understand it one way, I try to teach it another way so that he/she can learn it.
In 2001, I graduated from IUP with a degree in elementary education. I substitute taught around the South Hills of Pittsburgh for a year, then moved to Virginia, where I taught fifth grade for four years. The first three years were in a public school and the fourth in a private school. I taught all subject areas and skill level abilities.

I believe that children learn best from hands on experiences. It is up to me, the teacher to create these experiences, guide the child, and provide lots of postive reinforcement. There are many ways to learn and it is up to the teacher to help the student find which ways they learn best. There is also many different areas of intelligence and every person has a strength in one or more of these areas. Expectations should always be made clear, as well as an opportunity for routine, but also allowing room for flexibility. The child always comes first.
I realized my passion for teaching after working in a daycare for two years and organizing their preschool program. At, Carlow my teaching experiences were enhanced through my various field placements and student teaching. I pride myself on my desire to structure my lessons and my attitude in a student-centered way, and I am keenly aware that the true environment of my classroom depends on me. My philosophy of education is that the bulk of the weight rests on my shoulders; I issue the clear expectations, promote logical consequences, and then I practice what I preach. A firm subscriber to the philosophy that students must be given the opportunity to make their own decisions and that they must be able to see the logical consequence of those decisions, I operate my classroom knowing that teenagers need to feel like they have ownership of their lives. If I am organized, prepare captivating lessons, provide clear expectations, and promote logical consequences, my students will be the captains of their own ships and I will have played a role in cultivating more engaged citizens.

A Little Bit About Me...

I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. However, my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when the reality of “schooling” was revealed. I no longer felt joy, but heartache at the systemic annihilation of inner-city children. However, one thing inspired me to keep coming to teach, day after day, despite the school’s limited supplies, lack of safety, and irreverence for aesthetics; it was the will and determination of my students. They came to school day after day, excited to just learn and receive reassurance that education is liberating and knowledge is power. It was with these students in mind, along with my own children an ... read more

I am a teacher because I enjoy hard work and helping others find success. I want my students to experience meaningful, interesting learning that applies to their lives. I believe this can be accomplished through the use of hands-on/minds-on activities, cooperative learning, an integrated curriculum, and, when possible, technology and the internet. I possess excellent skills in planning, classroom management, motivation, rapport with students and parents, differentiated instruction, and teaching strategies for a variety of learning styles.
My education has given me a unique background in child development and knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques. All of which enable me to create lessons that use innovative methods and approaches to engage all students in the learning process. I have completed a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Curriculum and ... read more

I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
I have been selected as a peer tutor through Carlow University for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

I believe that every student can choose where he/she wants to go, as long as they are given the tools to acheive these ambitions. I have a heart for children and love watching their minds embrace new ideas and concepts. If I provide the patience, experience, motivation and materials, I hope that every student I have guided (or will guide) will go on to do great things. Working in a French public school taught me more patience than I thought I had. But in doing so, I am now prepared to deal with all types of children. If you show me even the slightest interest in learning, I'll coach you all the way! Let's learn together!
