LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.
I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.

I'm a fifth-teen year old, currently enrolled at Thomas J. Corcoran High School, where I am a sophomore I currently take IB classes and wanted to start tutoring to pass the time and pick up a little extra cash. I'm drug free and have never tasted alcohol. I try to be patient and usually am. I'd prefer to work with children still in elementary or middle school, seeing as I haven't learned everything yet. I know the basic and more to just about everything eighth grade and below. Typically the setting in which the tutoring will take place will be my house in my dining room area and after that the student may watch television until his or her parent or guardian is there to pick them up.

Biology is one of my top subjects! I have a bachelor of science degree in Biology, and it's been my favorite subject since grade school. It's the study of life, all things living, and everything that comes together to create our world! Genetics, ecology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, cellular biology, the body systems... it can all be extremely interesting, and I enjoy teaching as much as I enjoyed learning. For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! Everyone absorbs knowledge differently so it is important to cater to each student's particular needs.
