My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : I took a semester of Marine Biology and received a strong 3.5 in the class.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the ... read more

"Proof=Math, Belief=Religion,Evidence=Science"-EmK PhD

Statement of Teaching Philosophy Learning is based upon trust. Students trust me to tell the truth, to empower them with the ability to ask questions, to find and more importantly, evaluate something as truth for themselves; I consider this to be the core of my teaching philosophy. A complete science curriculum will enable an understanding about how and how often science goes wrong, and how history can shadow great accomplishments due to social limitations of the day; Rosalind Franklin comes to mind for her well-documented (yet virtually unknown to the public) role in the discovery of DNA’s helical structure. Illustrating the process of science as self-correcting in the methodology, and the necessity for corroboration and collaboration, is the core of my curriculum. Apart from traditional prepared lectures, students work together to accomplish projects, both as a supportive te ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from the University of Texas double majoring in History and Biology. I have worked as a biology teacher for a freshman year biology course. My specialty was marine biology, and I have lots of experience in field and laboratory research, which has influenced my love for science. History started as a hobby and turned into a passion of mine.
My teaching style is very energetic and I love participation by the students. I think students can learn better through experiencing the information rather than just hearing it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I got my Marine Biology degree in 2004 from TAMUG. We did a lot of research out in the field mostly right off the island. Over the years we collected, observed ,researched , and collected data for our scientific research papers that a lot of courses demanded. Being out in the field was the best part. Vertebrae Zoology was my track, but I specialized in cetacean behavior.

Biology and the life sciences are as interesting to me now as when I was in the fifth grade. My education is in microbiology which I have applied in the agrigricultural industry, diabetes research, and pharmaceutical diagnostics. I have been teaching biology and biotechnology classes for the past seven years in communty college and high school. My best asset as a teacher is finding a way to make the material interesting and relevant to my students.
As a teacher, I strive to motivate students and to encourage their desire to learn so they may ascertain their strengths and abilities. Encouraging and promoting the desire to learn – a natural gift of our childhood – is the keystone to achieving academic excellence, confidence, and creative problem-solving skills. I provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions and foster confidenc ... read more

Attitude is the biggest obstacle when trying to learn something new. I try to make the learning process as fun and interesting as possible. When a student is struggling, I believe it is vital to build their confidence towards success. It is important to not make them feel overwhelmed, but to show them how to conquer a problem step by step. I can help provide the tools that your child needs to realize his/her ability.
While earning my BA in economics from The University of Texas, I also completed all my pre-med courses. This has provided me with a strong background in mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences. I have always had a strong aptitude for integrating concepts from different disciplines and exploring how they relate to one another. This skill is useful when explaining new ideas to other students in terms that they can relate to.

More About This Tutor...

I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). I really enjoy the company and conversation of young adults and find I often learn from them as they are learning from me. I also believe that the brain is like a muscle: the more it is exercised the stronger it gets.
My wife and I home-schooled our three children from 1993 until 2004. In addition, I was active in Scouts from 1994 until 2007 as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor. These positions are supervisory in nature and involve both formal and informal teaching, mentoring and ... read more
