I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Science. While at Coastal I co-founded a Shark Research Club and performed population studies on sharks in Winyah Bay, SC. After graduation I worked at a Shark Research facility in South Bimini, Bahamas, where I worked hands on with Doctorate students on various projects. Almost all students get excited about learning when it is presented in a manner that fits their learning style and is appropriate for their ability/level. Assessment of both is mandatory before you can begin effective and meaningful instruction. Once these assessments are completed, learning objectives should be identified and consistently evaluated. Spiraling curriculum is a strategy that I frequently use with students during tutoring session. It allows a learner to activate their prior knowledge and then build upon it. At that time I worked in the informal education field as an afterschool program teacher and manager of a educational programming business, educational director at a Museum and Nature Center and opened my own educational business for developing educational programs. I feel that the most important step to being an effective teacher is to make the material relevant. If the student does not see a relevant reason to learn the material, the learning curve will be much steeper. Then, I work hard to be sure the student understands my commitment to partner with him/her in the learning process, and that process is a two-way street. And, once I've determined the method of learning that works best for a student, I design the material to accommodate that method. Once these goals are met, success is assured.

My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I then obtained a position as a youth counselor with the YMCA and quickly moved up to Site Coordinator where I was in charge of my own after school care group, including being in charge of organizing activities and managing youth counselors. Most recently I underwent PADI Divemaster training where I had real world experience teaching and assisting PADI Open Water students with classroom, confined water, and open water training.
