A Little Bit About Me...

First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. This program allowed the young girls to attend school. Due to budget restrictions it was cut. I was offered a position as a special education teacher in the high school. My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : As a dyslexic student myself, I have intimate knowledge of the possible difficulties with learning a new language.

As a student, I understand the importance of a good teacher. I always try and help the student find and correct their own mistakes, rather than merely giving them the corrections. I have found that the listening is one of the most important tools that a tutor has at their disposal: in my experience, the student knows where their weaknesses and difficulties lie, even if they are unable to articulate the problem areas. Therefore, as a tutor, I always try and listen carefully to the student and adapt the lesson to each students respective needs.
