My comments on tutoring Life Science : GED level

My teaching style is determined by the needs of my class. Each person learns differently. I have found that a teacher must provide visible, hands-on, lectures, and kinetic teaching styles to meet the needs of a class. At some point every student must learn to work independently.
Adult Education Instructor for 9 years. I have taught in community GED classes in Georgia also. My experience in Alabama has been with the penal system. This has been a rewarding place to work. We are responsible for over 100 GED's each year. In Georgia, I also taught basic computer skills. Reading was the main focus of this promgram. I taught mothers to read to their children. I also teach voice privately.

I start off with the student displaying what they know and/or don't know. I give an example and and encourage feedback in order to guage the student's understanding. Finally, I have the student to show their understanding. Sometimes, it may take different methods because people learn differently.
I have had over 15 years of tutoring and/or teaching experience. I have worked with different age groups, my preferred and primary being adults. I am currently working on my master’s thesis in mathematics, by which I expect to graduate fairly soon. I am patient, creative, and thorough in my interaction with students. Through this experience, I learned that all students are different and require different ways and methods of teaching. I began to understand that being “in-tune” with children’s different learning styles was very important to be successful in reaching them. I’ve also tutored a 3rd grade boy in reading for one summer. After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a general science minor, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra as a graduate teaching assistant. I enjoy helping children discover new areas, encouraging them to move way from the trite and trivial to new and daring concepts in their research. I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and determination to see a task through to completion.
