I have a passion for teaching all ages. I am patient, caring and understanding. My goal is to do whatever I can to get the answers children/adults need. I feel that students learn best if they see/hear the information given in multiple ways. I feel that if the material is presented in a variety of ways it will help students learn the material better as opposed to just memorizing.
I graduated a year early from high school which then led me to the local community college. At the community college, I found myself being president of a local club known as Earth Awareness.I then graduated with my Associates Degree in Biology with honors.Cornell University was the next stage in my life where I became part of a local honors group known as Alpha Zeta Fraternity.Although attending Cornell University was a great honor; I felt that it was too large of a school for me(300+ in some courses) which ... read more

I have earned a bachelors degree in Accounting and Business Management, along with a minor in Economics. I have worked for Northwest Savings Bank for the past 3 years, in many different areas. In my position, I help produce a quarterly report that is given to the department heads and shows the overall financial position of the bank. I also help lenders determine the financial situation of a potential borrower. While in college, I began tutoring 3-4 fellow students in Accounting.
I love working with all children and I believe that my experience working for Northwest Savings Bank would be an asset to helping children understand the finance and accounting world. The single most important thing about being a teacher or mentor is to be respectful, socially aware, and sensitive. Okay, that's three things, but they kind of go together. The second most important thing about being a mentor is to create understanding about the underlying principle of whatever it is he or she is learning about. Once you understand the underlying principle, the "how to" stuff becomes a *lot* easier to understand and remember. On the other hand, a person who's trying to learn the "how to" stuff without understanding the underlying principles is likely to forget key things, to be tripped up when an unexpected question arises, and to get into other trouble.
I've always been driven to help others understand subjects on a deep level. When I was in high school, I taught my brother basic algebra. (He was ten years old at the time.) As the editor of a high IQ society's ... read more

Teaching is my passion. I find that the single most important factor in being successful while working with children is getting to know them. When you get to know a student and what his or her interests are you get a glimpse into how they learn. Every time I teach I ensure that my lessons are student oriented. I incorporate the student's interests as much as possible. When students are engaged they tend to learn better. All students have the potential to excel. Sometimes all it takes is a little extra attention and explanation that the general classroom teacher may not have the time to give.

I enjoy working with and teaching all levels of students and children. No two children learn in the same way. It is important to differentiate and identify the way that each child needs to be taught and engaged in the lesson. Lessons must be concrete and meaningful to a child. If things are taught to them in a way and on a level that they can grasp any child can be taught. It is important to me that each child be given an opportunity to learn. It is nice to be remembered as the teacher that changed the way a child feels about school and learning from a negative to a positive experience.
I have extensive experience working with dually diagnosed individuals. The students I taught not only had difficulty learning but also exhibited some emotional and mental difficulties. I work well with students both individually and in group lessons. My special education experience has provid ... read more

More About This Tutor...

By working closely with other professionals, I have been able to put into practice many of the educational theories and figure out how they work best with my style of teaching and the students with whom I work. I have worked at a school for students with emotional, learning, and behavioral needs and developed positive relationships with each student. I also did a research study to improve behavior, reduce anxiety and stress and enhance academic performance with the use of biofeedback software. Last year, I worked as a Special Education teacher where I was able to take advantage of many professional development opportunties. I was trained in Orton-Gillingham, which I used as part of a reading program that improve reading scores immensely.
I love being around children and watching them be successful and enjoy their school adventure. To do this, I provide opportunities for the student ... read more
