I am not young enough to know everything

I agree with the concept that each person learns a bit differently, and even more so that as a tutor, I should try and find the most effective style for my tutee. My academic career also taught me the importance of setting time limits for each action item; and switching tasks to keep the mind sharp.
You will see from my resume below that I have strong experience in math, science, engineering and computers. It is worth mentioning that I am also skilled in english (5 on my AP World Lit exam) and art (voted most artistic in my senior high school class). I have also tutored at least 4 students in the past, and found it to be a successful and rewarding experience. Katharine P. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to improve Mandarin is through speaking it. Therefore, I will stress on the oral portion more. I think reading and discussing about articles on different subjects is a good way to help students feel comfortable about speaking Chinese. I think geology is a subject that needs to be verbalized and visualized. Therefore, I will rely on graphics and dialogues with my students to help them familiarize themselves with geologic concepts.
I was born in Taiwan and grew up in Shanghai. I tutored English in Shanghai and tutored Mandarin at Wheaton College. I'm confident in not just teaching Mandarin but relating the language to American culture and Chinese culture. I am a third year student majoring in Geology at Wheaton College. I spent one year as a teaching assistant in the geology department at Wheaton.

Mathematically, I teach from a logical, or procedural approach. As students work their way up to Calculus and further, it is important to understand the process of problem-solving and not focus on the numbers alone. Many sciences can become abstract, I like to relate topics to things students may encounter everyday or already understand in order to get a foundation before complicating topics with smaller detail. I am very positive and try to push students as fast as they absorb the information. I feel it is hard to enjoy a subject if you do not understand it or see how it effects you. For this reason, I try to bring real-world uses for topics and bring these subject to life.

I enjoy helping young students reach their potential. I believe that students learn best when subjects are presented in a interactive and fun way. I encourage student feedback and participation by asking questions and providing activities. I try to open student's eyes to things they have never experienced before, whether it be a foreign culture that they have never heard of, or the idea that they truly can succeed.
I have been a Sunday school teacher for a wide range of age. This experience makes me comfortable in many different classroom settings. More About This Tutor...

I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching. I believe that children are the future and should be given the opportunity to do well and succeed in school. I like to do my best to teach students how to do something and then let them discover and practice how to do it for themselves on their own. I feel that providing good instruction and then being there to assist when needed is the best way for students to learn. I also understand that all students learn differently, so I would include the student in determining what strategies work best for him or her.
Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own ... read more

I am currently a Special Education student at Northern Illinois University. I at the beginning of the education program and think this would an excellent chance to start teaching. I have a vast background in science, being that my first major was biology.
I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. My knowledge has been spread out throughout my college years and this would be a great first step into teaching. I am willing to do whatever a child needs in order for them to fully grasp a concept. I often think outside of the box and think I can provide some creativeness that other teachers cannot.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a current graduate student of Texas A&M University working towards my PhD in Particle Physics here at Fermi National Accelerator Lab I have had the good fortune to not only experience the passion and interest that research in physics provides, but develop an extensive and diverse teaching experience. With an emphasis on making physics fun and understandable I have had experience in many of the basic physics courses as well as helping develop an outreach course to present the upper level physics ideas (big bang, black holes,...etc) to the mass public in an approachable and understandable way.
I have learned that in teaching physics and mathematics it is important not only to have a grasp of the broad principles and concepts but to see how they are related and build upon one another. Furthermore, I have seen the success in teaching and practicing physics and mathematics from a pro ... read more

As an undergraduate student at Dayton and as a graduate student at Notre Dame, I was responsible for teaching undergraduate chemistry labs in general, organic, and physical chemistry. While I was at Notre Dame, I also acted as a dissertation leader for Organic Chemistry for two semesters and worked as a part-time tutor for 2 years. Currently, I am a Senior Research Chemist for Rohm and Haas, one of the top specialty chemical companies worldwide.
I believe that my extensive experience in organic chemistry, both from the academic perspective and from the industrial side give me an advantage in helping students make a "real world" connection between what they learn in textbooks to how it can and is applied to everyday industrial science. In helping students grasp the many difficult areas of chemistry, I believe that I am making an impact on the next generation of scientists. As far a ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Every child has a different way of learning, whether it is visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, and it is important for the teacher to be able to teach accordingly. I feel that it is important in teaching to make every child feel positive about themself and have a good attitude towards school. Every child is different in their own way, and I feel that it is crucial to have a positive learning environment so the children are accepting of each other's differences.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to teach children and enrich their lives in as many ways as possible. I started helping my mom out when she taught preschool at the age of three. After school during elementary, middle, and high school, I would always go to school and help my mom in the classroom or during the day when I could. I constantly went to school functions and volunteered to help out at the fun ... read more
