I recently completed student teaching requirements for Kansas and will have my degree conveyed shortly. I chose to be a teacher as my second career. I have always wanted to teach and love working with children. I spent 18 years working for full time for the Kansas National guard. I worked in Logistics for 13 years, then I worked as a budget analyst for the KSARNG for 5 years. I am a veteran who has traveled all over. I have a master's degree and have tutored business students at bachelor level and associate level before. I specialize in budget, accounting, finance, and marketing topics.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basics and working up to the harder subjects is important. So, with the assignment given I also ask other questions of the student to see if they understand the more basic concepts of the problem as well as answer the question. I find this helps them understand the process more completely and the student ends up giving more complete answers on assignments and exams. At the end of each session I hope the person I am helping better understands the material and can gain a little confidence about the subject.
In undergrad, I was somewhat of a perfectionist looking for a way to help others. I found that being a tutor and a supplemental instructor allowed me to he ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I received my bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I then moved to the University of Kansas where I completed a masters in Biochemistry and Biophysics. During this time I was a graduate teaching assistant for two years. I taught science labs including biochemistry I lab (2 semesters), biochemistry II lab (1 semester), and physiology lab (2 semesters). I also assisted in teaching biochemistry lecture. My degrees show that I have a strong background in science but to be a good biochemist you have to understand many different subjects. My course work for these degrees included many biology, chemistry, and math classes (statistics, algebra, calculus).
There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to ... read more
