Highly Experienced Teacher/Director looking to help students

My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. I have taught Elementary Level, High School Level, and substitute taught in Middle School Level. I worked for a company called SmartApple, where we graded statewide standardized testing. My specialty was in marking the writing portion. I have so much more experience, and I love helping students to succeed at any age. Please contact me for further information on how my qualifications can match your needs.

Writing, reading, and english have always been my passions. I don't have any formal training within the english tutoring or teaching worlds; however, I have always been a "go-to" for friends and classmates whenever they had questions or concerns about their assignments. Next fall I will be heading back to school in order to obtain my teaching credentials, and in the meantime, I thought that I would use my talents to help others.

I currently hold a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in Sociology. My major gpa was a 3.4 and I graduated from Rutgers College in New Brunwick which when I attended was the toughest school to get into within the Rutgers University system. I also have several years experience running an online sales business and plan to further my education in the near future since I value education highly for both personal and professional growth.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience includes work as a professional tutor for Penn State University where I helped undergraduate students with English papers at all levels of development from brainstorming to final drafts. I also co-taught writing workshops on grammar and proper research for an English paper. In addition, I possess my Master of Fine Arts in Writing, and therefore have experience with conducting my own research and writing papers, which includes a critical thesis and graduate lecture. The experience gained from both researching and writing these works has helped me more easily explain construction strategies to students frustrated by their English assignments.
My time tutoring has helped me shape a tutoring strategy in which I first identify the level of help the student needs and then guide the student through collaborative efforts to the realization of his or her own innate writi ... read more

As an English educator, I firmly believe that the more experience you acquire, the more effective your teaching style becomes. Since I not only teach language arts in a middle school setting, but also accept positions which require me to tutor students of all ages (elementary to college level students), I feel my experiences have allowed me to become very flexible and adaptable to any teaching situation and any student's need. Also, because of these experiences, I am more confident in the content area I teach, but I am still open to learning new ways to present material.
My teaching style is fair, but firm. I am a strict believer in following directions and organization as a basis for any subject taught, and I strive to help my students understand this process as they go through their educational careers. My role is not just as educator, I am a director in my student's study sk ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.
I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.

A Little Bit About Me...

At Hofstra University I gained not only the experience necessary to work with a diverse group of children and teachers, but also the understanding of how important reading, writing, comprehension, and grammatical skills are in life. I hold a Bachelors Degree in English Literature as well as Sociology. In the past 3 years I have been given the opportunity to help students to learn and grow in several different fields. I have spent time in several different schools teaching middle school subjects to advanced learners and even children ranging from ages 5-15 who suffer from learning disabilities and lack social skills. I spend my time volunteering for many educational organizations and I am very proud of my education and experience.
My main focus when teaching is to "keep it interesting". Students struggle with relating to their teachers and administrators in a classroom or school set ... read more
