A Little Bit About Me...

I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no excuse for not trying very hard in school because the main path to success as a young adult is a high school diploma with excellent grades. I am very patient and friendly with students of all abilities.
A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. I enjoy teaching children, students of all ages and those willing to learn. As a high school student, I was involved in inner city teaching and I helped hartford students in their studies after their school. I appreciate higher education and I truly understand what it takes to teach as I myself teach my own children with their homework from their own schools after they come home. I earned the Barbara Allen Woods Award for German Excellence at the University of Rhode Island.
I taught school for four (4) years to ages kindergarten - seventh grade. I also tutored inner city children ages 5-12 for two (2) years. I am currently self-employed as a computer software trainer. My practice includes clients as well as groups. As part of my work, I'm currently an adjunct professor at 2 local community colleges. I'm also a Sunday school teacher at my local congregation. I've been doing this for many years. My classes over the years have ranged from K-6th grade. I thoroughly enjoy it and it's fair to say I get more than I give. Finally, I also teach adult ed as part of my business.
