A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with teenagers, young adults and older students returning to college. I work especially well with students who have a lack of confidence about their academic or intellectual abilities. May students have told me years after taking my courses that they would not have made it to graduation without my help. I also served as a drama director at one of my colleges and produced 4 highly successful full-length plays. Ten years after one of the productions the entire cast planned a surprise reunion for me at a local restaurant. I could ask for greater 'applause' for my teaching efforts.

I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. The high expectations of professors at Wesleyan pushed me to greatly improve my writing ability, with my music thesis earning me honors in music.
