The motto of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society is "Love of learning is the guide of life". I live my own life by this ideal, and I try my best to instill a love of learning in my students. Too many students believe, indeed have been taught, that math is just a series of formulas and recipes to be learned and memorized. Understanding concepts doesn’t seem to be necessary or even desirable. No wonder students “hate” math!
