A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelor of Art in History, predominantly American. I also pursued Engineering for my first year and plan to go back to College. I have completed through Calculus II and am also experienced in hands-on mechanical. I have limited tutoring experience, but I know I can listen and respond. Any experience came from helping others in classes during College.
I'm patient and listen to the student to see what they get and don't get about the premise of the lesson. Then we get to it. Careful reinforcement of the Correct method will ensure Remembrance and Results. Also, Lessons must be approached within the context of the Big Picture. Students need to realize that there are no pointless or forgettable sections. Basically, communication is key followed by practice, reinforcement, more practice. Learning can be at pace, but laziness and whining will not be tolerated.

During my years attending UMass Dartmouth, I recieved my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Business Administration. But I also gained alot of experience working with children. I tutored elementary age students in the star program and college students at my campus job in the Unity House. I also was the coordinator for the New Bedford Speech Academy. This program taught students fron 4-6th grade public speaking skills. I have applied the skills I learned to my current job as a home tutor. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy seeing the "A ha" moment that students get when a concept becomes clear to them. I am not a big fan of memorization and have encouraged students to not only understand the concepts, but to also link the concepts together into a big picture understanding. I believe the most important factors in teaching a student how to write well are practice and praise. I would show, by example in other’s work and especially the student’s own work, what has been done well, and encourage more of it. I earned my BS in Psychology in four years, working as an assistant preschool teacher for one and a half years during that time. After graduating, I worked as a special education teacher for four months before taking a job in social services.
