A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that a subject should be presented in a way that is fun for the pupil. I provide a very hands on approach to learning. If the lesson is engaging than I will argue firmly that a lesson can be extracted from the experience. Certain characteristics are important in the tutor to student relationship. The tutor shall be patient,firm,fun and fair. Every child can succeed if provided with the right resources and the utilization of their resources is essential in their academic success. A Little Bit About Me...

In addition to completing an undergraduate degree in English Writing Arts in 2007, I have finished my graduate degree in Adolescence Education 7-12: English. This year I served as a tutor for Murray Learning Services, tutoring students in Oswego County in both English Language Arts and mathematics. I am also a substitute teacher for Mexico Academy and Central Schools where I have taught kindergarten through 12th grade, including special education classes. I have had wonderful opportunities to put my education to work during tutoring, substitute teaching, practicum settings and, currently, student teaching. I am a professional case manager who over the past 20 + years has held a variety of positions typical of the non-profit world. I work with the disabled population and have extensive successes working with those living with disabilities that fall under the autism spectrum and down syndrome. I am familiar with writing research papers and I am knowledgeable with the APA and Chicago Style of writing. I love English and the way in which words can create pictures in our minds. I am a big believer in stationed teaching concepts. A student must first, learn through audio and visual styles of learning through teacher-student interactions. I work on vocabulary strategies and skills next. The proper vocabulary background for any subject area should be clear and concise to the student. We next work on concept mapping, and linking common themes. There is a process to every step of learning. I will review often to look for missing concepts. Finally, independent learning is another station that is vital important. Assessing how a student can complete tasks on their own gives me an idea how well the instruction is going.
