Taking the fear out of testing, one session at a time

Currently I am tutoring Biology (among other sciences) as well as English at Pueblo Community College. I have been there for close to a half of a year at this point. I also have a 15 year old son who is in the IB program at Palmer. He does very well in school, I like to attribute that partially to my skills. I believe that we can all be our own very best resource in teaching ourselves how to learn and how to seek answers.

A Little Bit About Me...

Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a holistic teacher who likes for students to experience the subject. For example I would have student immerse themselves into the subject of history and complete a project and present it to the other students. It was really successful and had students waiting all year.

I have found that no matter how much anyone person would like to teach, no one can force someone to learn. With that in mind, if I remember to approach each student as an individual with his or her own abilities, concerns, and goals, I will have a more successful result as an educator. I have learned that each individual has at least one trigger, for want of a better word, which will entice them unconsciously to want to learn. One of my goals is to find that element. A Little Bit About Me...

I have over 23 years as a career professional of government IT services. This includes, contract negotiations, Network Engineering, CAD, Security, Multi-media, Graphic Arts and Photography. I have written a 120pg thesis entitled "Datawarehousing." I enjoy my small business "Digital Advertising" and likely have the most tutoring skills in this area.
