• As a NESCAC undergraduate, I explored many areas of study. In addition to earning a BA in English and American Literature while completing a minor in African Studies, I also became fluent in French through study, travel, and teaching. My first teaching experiences were in high school, when I choreographed musicals and tutored a young Chinese boy in English. In college, I co-instructed a drum circle. Finally, this past summer I worked as a Residential Advisor at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy. In this position I was an academic advisor, a social mediator, and a confidante. I have had the unique opportunity through my diverse educational experiences to work with many different types of people. My initial degree is in Social science from Alfred State University. Throughout my education at Alfred State University I truly believe I began to understand and appreciate others and their differences. I received my second degree from Cortland State University in Early Childhood Education with Inclusion. I had the opportunity to work with many different types of children. I also had many diverse experiences while teaching first grade in Florida. In addition to teaching first grade I was also lucky to be able to tutor children from disadvantaged communities and help them thrive in school. I am looking to forward to teaching and would like display my skills. I am a very energetic person with the ability to take control of a classroom while producing winning results.

I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading. I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child.

You can preach all you want to children, but if you don't teach, there will be no learning. I believe that children will learn from someone they trust to talk to and from someone who they trust to give them the correct answers to their questions. I enjoy being that person. I like being the person who will sit next to them, talk to them, and help them out. I do not want to be the person across from them speaking without any word from my students. I am teacher who provides my students with energy to succeed. I want to keep their attention for as long as I can on the given criteria, boring or not.
