My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : I am a math geek. While my B.A. from the University of Delaware is in English literature, I’ve always wanted to be a math tutor for higher level math. So far, I’ve completed a refresher course in Basic Algebra at Bucks County Community College with that in mind. If my teacher was busy helping a fellow student in my class, she would send students to me so that I could help them with concepts that they were struggling with. My teacher said I’m a natural tutor with a lot of patience. I found that I could easily explain what we were working on. I have also tutored several students since my class. One of my private students said I made Algebra seem easy!

I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand.
