A Little Bit About Me...

Because all students learn differently, it is important for me as a teacher to get to know each student to find out what fits their needs the best. I like to offer a variety of activities that appeal to the hands-on learns, as well as kids that need visual cues. I am a patient, encouraging and energetic teacher. It's my joy to find the instruction that really clicks with each student, and celebrate with them over their successes.
I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. I also have experience in 7th and 8th grade. My strengths are teaching math strategies such as facts, multi-step problems and algebra. I have a passion for reading and writing instruction. I am highly qualified to teach reading fluency, phonics/ word attack, comprehension and vocabulary. My style is one of 're-packaging' concepts into easy to handle segments. Outlining is a very useful tool in this process. In addition, I use a 'research yesterday's work' approach, and a 'search the index' approach for leading a student to find the appropriate answer. Patience is the most encouraging principle for creating the environment needed for learning. Many have told me that I have a wonderful way with listening and explaining. I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. My knowledge has been spread out throughout my college years and this would be a great first step into teaching. I am willing to do whatever a child needs in order for them to fully grasp a concept. I often think outside of the box and think I can provide some creativeness that other teachers cannot.
I am currently a Special Education student at Northern Illinois University. I at the beginning of the education program and think this would an excellent chance to start teaching. I have a vast background in science, being that my first major was biology.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Sunday school teacher for a wide range of age. This experience makes me comfortable in many different classroom settings. I also taught basic health lessons to adult women in developing nations such as India and Uganda. I have been a substitute teacher for elementary, middle, and high school students in the Arlington Independent School District in Texas. I supervised a grant funded tutoring program for refugee children going to school in the Fort Worth Independent School District. I paired tutors with classrooms and students and gave them teaching material. All of the students were learning English as a second or third language. I also tutored the refugee children myself, in reading and in English.

Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own lessons and activities for the children. The following year I was a substitute teacher in Wisconsin for various grade levels and loved each experience.
