My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I am a special education teacher and have worked with a couple students with Dyslexia.

My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very valuable experience teaching in a variety of classrooms. For one semester, I taught in a junior high life-skills classroom where we practiced daily living skills and went out into the community so the students could practice skills such as locating items in a store, paying with money, and crossing the street. Then I spent my Fieldbase semester at two different schools. The first one was 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities. There, I taught them the core subjects of Math, Reading, and Writing, and went into their regular education classes to help them with study skills, Science, and Social Studies. Because all students learn differently, it is important for me as a teacher to get to know each student to find out what fits their needs the best. I like to offer a variety of activities that appeal to the hands-on learns, as well as kids that need visual cues. I am a patient, encouraging and energetic teacher. I am currently a Special Education student at Northern Illinois University. I at the beginning of the education program and think this would an excellent chance to start teaching. I have a vast background in science, being that my first major was biology.
I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. My knowledge has been spread out throughout my college years and this would be a great first step into teaching. I am willing to do whatever a child needs in order for them to fully grasp a concept. I often think outside of the box and think I can provide some creativeness that other teachers cannot.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own lessons and activities for the children. The following year I was a substitute teacher in Wisconsin for various grade levels and loved each experience. I am looking forward to beginning to substitute teach again this December in the DeKalb area.
I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching. I believe that children are the future and should be given the opportunity to do well and succeed in school.
